If you found us at the WA Craft Fair and were interested in seeing what we do please come along on Saturday. We will have a couple of demos from previous workshops to show you some of our techniques. There will also be a show and tell display from our members where you can chat to them and ask them about their work. Morning tea will be available, which will include biscuits and cakes as well as a cup of tea or coffee. If you can bring your own mug it will be a lot nicer than the disposable cups we will have on hand. After 11 O'clock we will be continuing with our regular social day meeting where we will be making our own journals with machine stitched covers. Julie will be showing us how to make lace using our sewing machine and water soluble fabric.

There  will be a demo about how to layer your rusting. You will then be able to do it at home yourself if you want to. We will do a faux rust technique too. We will also work on some rusted material to make a finished piece. 

   An altered book if your interpretation of what you want it to be. I have made recipe books, travel books, gardening books, fairy stories. It is a lovely present to give to someone special.

We are going to create backgrounds to slash and burn. The idea is ELEMENT OF SURPRISE.   If you wish to create a certain theme, for example a sea scene or a woodland scene then stay with those complimentary colour fabrics etc.  Otherwise just go for a mish mash of colours that will surprise you in the end.   This piece can then be finished with handstitching or beading accordingly when you go home. 

CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS

In the morning Helen will be showing us several different ways to use your Gelli Plates to make colourful fabrics and papers including:   - Subtraction techniques - Addition techniques - Multi-coloured stencil prints - Easy registration multi layered prints - Prints plus stamps - Patterned motifs - Prints with markers   In the afternoon she'll show us a different technique with block ink where you can print fine lines and transfer images. Please note that the block ink takes several hours to be completely dry. You may want to bring some plastic to separate your fabrics while you take them home.   These methods can produce lots of prints in a short time, bring lots of fabric and paper if you are a fast worker.

This month we will be exploring Angelina and different things you can do with it. The coloured film is also known as Mylar. You can buy it in sheets or shredded. 

This month we will be learning free form machine embroidery with Julie Macdonald of Thimble Fingers Australia. She will have kits available containing all the textured materials required.

Linda Stokes - Textile Artist Printing and painting with procion dyes to make your own fabrics. As you are using dyes the fabric will remain soft and pliable to use in future textile art pieces.   Workshop refund policy In the event of a paid participant cancelling less than 4 weeks beforehand there will be no refund.  The Committee will consider a partial refund if written application is received within one month of this cancellation or there are extenuating circumstances.

Pam will demonstrate how to prepare and transfer photos onto fabric. She will also talk about several different methods of doing so. Then we will do a transfer ourselves.

Experimenting with Colour Be prepared to have some fun mixing paints to create a rainbow of colours. Use the theory of colour and a colour wheel to decide which colours work well together and apply this knowledge when choosing textiles for your art projects. I will have cardboard etc available for you to construct a colour wheel on the day.   We will be creating some painted fabric backgrounds to use as a base for future projects. We will also be investigating using household chemicals with indicators to colour fabric - a little bit of Chemistry! -  Jan Howman
